Sonic is too fast and has a better recovery. Plus, Sakurai nerfed Greninja.

Greninja is a dumb character anyways. Sakurai realized his mistake too late in development, and had to cut his new original Lucas idea.

Sonic is better because Mario is no match for sonics speed. Mario might have a bigger arsenal, but in the end sonics speed is what makes him better. If you put sonic in a death battle against Mario, then sonic will counter Marios arsenal with his shields and can turn into super sonic to counter marios star power up and in the end sonic can tire out Mario with his speed and can defeat Mario.
