Ever since the release of Super Smash Bros for Wii U on November 21, Nintendo launched a series of Near Field Communication (NFC) figures that they have decided to call "amiibo". The concept is similar to Skylanders and Disney Infinity, where they perform certain functions with a game, but for amiibo, they work with multiple games of multiple series, instead of one collective series of games like Skylanders and DI.

Amiibo offer different features depending on the game, including trainable CPU, costume swaps, and item/weapon drops. Some games that work with amiibo include Super Smash Bros for Wii U, Hyrule Warriors, Mario Kart 8, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, and soon other games such as Mario Party 10 and Yoshi's Wolly World. Third parties can also provide support for these amiibo figures.

I'm curious as to if anyone here has or plans on buying any amiibo as of now. I am kind of surprised no one has really made a thread about these yet.

(I noticed I screwed up the title)

I kind of fall in the group of people who were initally going to get just some amiibo, but now wants to get most of them.

Currently, the following amiibo I have are:
Mario
Link
Samus
Marth
Fox
Donkey Kong
Peach
Kirby
Pikachu
Yoshi
Wii Fit Trainer
Little Mac
Zelda
Diddy Kong

The following I have preordered:
Luigi
Pit
Captain Falcon
Ike
Toon Link
Shiek
King Dedede
Bowser
Sonic
Mega Man
Shulk
Meta Knight

I can live with missing a few of the ones that come up (though I would have liked Villager), but it'd be nice if I can get most of them.

I REALLY want the Fire Emblem (especially my main Robin) and Kid Icarus ones, since they have little to no merchandise. I would also like Pac-Man, ROB, Dr Mario, Mr Game and Watch and Duck Hunt.

Additionally, it seems Shulk is out of preorders from GameStop's website. Hopefully if you wanted Shulk, you got him prior to today (I think he was just recently unavailable in the past 24 hours).

I might get the Ike and Mega Man one. I also might get the Shulk one just to teach him how to PG. His PG with the speed art is great.

Also, this'll stay in Gaming because Amiibos will be on 3DS soon enough.

HOLY , Zach, WTF? Why do you want so many of them? Give me one, rich nigga.

Anyway, I only want 3: Greninja, Charizard, and Pikachu.
Unfortunately, only Pikachu is available now, and the other two have yet to be announced. I'll probably pick up Pikachu sometime soon.

carlos- I got hit with the "amiibo crack" addiction. I only intend on getting one of each figure. I doubt I'll get all the figures (I might never get Villager, and Lucario seems pretty difficult right now), but I find that preordering actually has a pretty good purpose now. Also, some figures from Wave 3 are already dry of preorders. Thus, for current or later announced figures, it'd be in your best interest to preorder the ones you really want from somewhere.

Shulk is unavailable to preorder from GameStop (I preordered him Thursday night in a store prior to this), and the company plans on only getting enough for the set preorders first, and then intend to release the others later in the year. As a result, demand will rise along with the resale value on eBay. As a result, GameStop will sell the new Shulk amiibos from the second shipment as "used", and will sell them for double or triple the MSRP.



I personally don't find resellers to be scammers, but I do see them as slimy pricks.

Wow. Shulk is actually back up for preorder on GameStop's website now. Rosalina is also on Target's website, saying it's ready for preorder, but it currently is not ready for them. Hopefully they get the preorders open sooner or later.

Apparently the people at my local Target said they don't really do preorders for the amiibos, but they do for video games. Hopefully they get reserve cards for the Rosalina amiibo. My brother works at Target and could pick one up if he gets the chance (and if they do the preorder cards at Target).

UPDATE: Lucario preorder cards (and cards for the other non-exclusive Wave 3 figures) are available at ToysRUs retail stores. I just got my preorder card for Lucario just now, so if anyone wants to guarantee that they'll get Lucario, you better go and get yours reserved.
