Indie Review: Werewolf - The Last Warrior
Gold (2014-11-27 15:45:52)Why are you reviewing NES games? Reviews are made so people can get an idea if they should buy the game or not.
SackThing101 (2014-11-27 23:37:57)It's not directly based on that, Gold. Reviews are more like opinions.
Take this review and compare it with this review. Do you see the difference? It's more on opinion, I liked this game, the other guy didn't.
And who cares if it's an old game? People still play and review an old game like The Legend of Zelda. It doesn't matter about the console's age because,

Yeah yeah. As the title says, it's a review. Welcome to my first review of my Indie Reviews (IR) series (I guess you can call it). If this is liked and I'm not wasting my time, I'll do more. I'll put my sources of this game at the bottom of this page, so yeah. Despite the furry-ish title, well, my review will do the explaining. Let's begin I guess.
Let me be honest here; as much as I liked the game, the story doesn't have any meaning. Basically, bad guys are are being bad and they are working for a guy named, Dr. Faryan. Faryan's weapons and stuff are impossible to beat, but there's one weakness: a werewolf. You are the werewolf and you have to save the day. It's really not much, to be honest.
Okay, this is made off of the NES. You cannot expect like "oh it's too hard the gameplay sucks I'll go play my GoD: AWful" it has that NES style we all like. It's basically like hurt the person in front of you to kill him. But, I like the twist with the gameplay. You see, when you start off, you are a human. You beat a guy, he gives you some type of werewolf stone, and you are a lot stronger now and a lot more range-y. But, it would be no challenge if you could stay in werewolf form forever, right? That's why if you take a certain amount of damage, you'll turn back to your weak human self, until you find another werewolf stone. Of course, there's human stones so when you're a werewolf and grab it, you'll turn back human. As for the controls, it does depend what you are using. I was using a PSP, so it was hard doing a backflip and stuff, but I got used to it. Overall, good gameplay and the controls are what you pick.
Ooo, my favorite part about writing this review. The graphics are amazing for its time. Yes, there may be some major flaws, like the seizure images, but it's excellent regardless. As for the sound, well, it may or may not get annoying to some people, but I guess I like it. Overall, great graphics and neutral sound.
I'll be honest, the game got me really frustrated. From beating the bosses, drowning, getting OHKO'd by lightning, etc. It was hard for me to get passed the second level. Heck, I'm still stuck on a certain level, but that rage makes the game even more significant. It's like Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, broken hitboxes, OP attacks, spam, etc., but yet you still play it. It's also like Angry Birds or Flappy Birds type of thing. It's our minds wanting to accomplish something. Speaking of which, when you complete a level, it gives you that "whew that was a tough one. Next one will be easier" type of feeling, but with common sense, it'll get more difficult as you go. But if you feel really rageful, don't throw you *insert device here* out the window. It's a NES game, sorta.
This isn't in most reviews, but I have to put this here. The game actually has some unique features outside the classic NES game type of thing. Take the main character (you) for an example. Sure,
he's a furryhe's a werewolf with swords for arms, that's stupid, right? Well, stupidity in the looks and ideas become the most significant. It's like saying, an apple with arms, legs and eyes look stupid, but if effort is put into it, it would be creative. I'd put more examples, but that alone should sum it up.If you know me well enough, you will know that I HATE games with no replay value and love them with high replay value, but this is an exceptions. Every level has two or more ways completing it. One might be human-only, the other might be werewolf-only, or, it's just a mix up. But, let me take every little replay value out of it: Mastering all bosses, speed running, finding shortcuts, finding other ways to not get hit, doing sticks and stuff, and, most importantly, multiple endings. I am not sure if it's true that they do have other endings, but it's probably a yes. Though, those don't really get it up to 1 8/10 at least, since most of them are a stretch. This section was originally gonna be 4/10, but, NES, 6/10. It has at least some replay value.
Short and sweet, it's a very good game, for an indie game too. It has major ups such as gameplay and graphics, but major downs such as lack of a good story and bad replay value, but the ups has better points, but overall...
7.8/10
Welp, there you go. My first review and stuff. Hope you likey.
