carlos11 (2014-07-10 00:28:47)EV training, IV breeding, and team building has been around since THE FIRST GENERATION.
Those game mechanics were more obscure back then, though. Even now, people still don't understand how to play, and feel much the same way you do now.

BlueBlur (2014-07-10 00:31:28)They're just making it more complicated than it has to be. IV and EV stats were created so Pokemon would be different upon leveling, you know, so there can be some variety.
Nowadays its just used to create unbeatable god-pokemon. Can't even play competitive because everyone uses the same unbeatable Pokemon that pretty much guarantees them a win. No variety.

BirdJesus (2014-07-10 00:32:40)It's actually pretty simple.

carlos11 (2014-07-10 00:33:54)In Pokemon, nothing is "unbeatable". Everything has a counter, and raising perfect pokemon helps, but isn't a must.

BlueBlur (2014-07-10 00:35:34)They are when someone who doesn't IV train goes against someone who does.

Jason2k14 (2014-07-10 00:36:55)Like carlos11 said. Most pokemon have more than one weakness whilst others may have only one. All you have to do is work your way around it. For example, fire types are weak against water types. Just because the water type is super effective doesn't mean it's unbeatable. Grass/electric types can kill it

BlueBlur (2014-07-10 00:42:38)Thats not what I meant, of course the Pokemon have different weaknesses and such, but what's the point if your opponent has trained specifically to prevent said weaknesses from ae the same effect.
As I said earlier, IVs and EVs we're meant to have Pokemon differ from each other. No Charizard would be the same as another. They we're not meant to be maxed-out.

Jason2k14 (2014-07-10 00:45:58)Well, depends. If they train more than you have, then obviously the opponent would win. But what's the point of battling competitively with someone if they don't train as much ? Unless they're doing it for the fun of it.

little5 (2014-07-10 01:06:06)This is why I don't even try to learn competitive battling.. I'm moving this to the Gaming Forum.
carlos11 (2014-07-10 01:08:29)Obviously, the amount of effort put into building a team reflects on how well you'll do in battle.
Oh wait, did you think it'd be fair if all the noobs actually stood a chance against real trainers? That's stupid.

I'm an old man so this picture is exactly how I feel:
I don't even know what IV training is.
Why's it so complicated now? I always only train my starter and get it to like level 70 so by the time i get to the elite four i can two shot all their lame pokemon, and the only pokemon i had were ones that looked cool, not ones with better stats or something.
