"Gone, but not forgotten."

Today, the December issue of Nintendo Power should have arrived for most subscribers.

As you may know, this issue, Volume 285, is the final issue in Nintendo Power's 24-year legacy. Nintendo Power has shut down, and this issue was the last one produced.

To commemorate this occasion, I will briefly cover the final issue's contents for those who are not subscribed to Nintendo Power.


The issue came with a final "farewell letter" from the staff, as well as a poster.

The cover photo is a throwback to the cover of the first issue of Nintendo Power, which was a clay sculpture of Mario (in blue), some mushrooms and Wart from Super Mario Bros. 2 (which was the issue's main story). The cover of the final issue is a clay sculpture with Mario (with proper coloring), some Goombas, and Bowser. The picture was meant to be based on New Super Mario Bros. U.

Most of the regular features of Nintendo Power (Power Up, Star Power, Power Quiz, Warp Zone, Collector's Corner, Reader's Most Wanted, Game Forecast, Download, Power Profiles, Playback, Reviews Archive, and Community) were removed to make room for the final issue's special features.

Pulse, the "Letters to the Editor" column, was expanded to fit the various farewell letters from fans (as well as a few gaming celebrities).


NP's All-Time Favorite Games
As a commemoration to final issue 285, Nintendo Power's staff compiled a list of their top 285 games, with a few extra things added in.


Great Moments in Power
The NP staff looks at the magazine throughout the 24 years of production.


Power Players
Nintendo Power editors past and present look back at their fondest memories of the magazine.


Reviews
The entire reviews section was dedicated to reviewing the Wii U launch titles.

A special comic, "Nester and Max" (based on the old "Howard and Nester" comics from Nintendo Power's early days), was featured as a final farewell, followed by, in place of the "Next Issue" preview, a classic "Game Over" screen ("THANK YOU FOR READING!"), with 8-bit sprites of some of NP's staff.


And that concludes the final issue of Nintendo Power. And with that, I leave you with a few immortal words:
"CONGRATURATION
THIS STORY IS HAPPY END"

On a side note, Tank! Tank! Tank! looks to be a horrible game judging by the reviews I've seen on it. Besides that though, just look at the name of the game.

It's kind of sad, now we're stuck with Gameinformer.

That magazine is way to biased towards popular titles, and way too soft when reviewing.

I hate Gameinformer. The only reason I signed up for it last year was because there was a Zelda issue coming next month. And then what do you know? As soon as my subscription ended, a New Super Mario Bros. U issue is released.

But anyways, I didn't continue their subscription because I thought, I if I don't like or even know any of the games on the covers, why get it?
