Here's the story: In the episode "GIR Goes Crazy and Stuff," at the climax, where GIR was draining people's brains and trying to destroy Zim, they had intended GIR to be covered in blood. However, Nick did not allow this as it was deemed too "inappropriate" for said target audience. Because the staff had already drawn the image, they decided to hide it in various episodes of the show. Many people think the image was the reason the show was cancelled. This is false. Nick found the image AFTER the show was cancelled. Even then, Nick wasn't upset about the image. On a related note, many of the episodes were changed due to either "inappropriate" content or creative differences.

No. It was a drop in viewership. When the show was released, it had critical acclaim. The ratings unfortunately got worse as the show went on.
