Wii U is confirmed to be fully compatible with Unreal Engine 3, but 4 is apparently targeted at systems that are unannounced.

for the streetpass theory; nintendo is packaging a device that will be around the same size as the gameboy pocket and that is what you'll take around with ya, and plus its stated that the 3ds is compatable with is as well.

For unreal engine 4, a blog states that nintendo tweaked the console to be able to play this engine.

note: these are rumors but make sense
