Hello there all 3DSPlaza users. Has this ever happened to you?

503 Service Unavailable
The server is currently unavailable because it is overloaded or down for maintenance.

Apache server at 3dsplaza.com on port 80

I know it has to me.

Have you also noticed a high amount of users on the chats at once? I know I do.

Here's something I've been noticing recently:

What's this you ask? That's my FTP Program. The file with a 2 is a backup of the chat handler way back from globalization, a while ago (About March-April?)

Look what else is noted here:

The new version is about 84.4 kilobytes.

The backup/old version is only 20.3 kilobytes.

Now, the way PHP works is as follows: it is compiled at run-time on the server.

In the PHP file sl_chathnd.php there are methods for two different features:

- there is a method to send a message

- there is a method to display the messages

So, I decided to split these up, and make another backup. (Remember kids, backups are important!)

Here are my two files:

The one with 'send' in the name is for sending messages, and the other is for reading messages.

That means that every 5 seconds, per person in a chat, PHP has to go through 58 Kilobytes less than it did before, which was used for sending. That's an absolute miracle when you think about it.

I'm very curious as to whether this will reduce the 503 outbreaks. Please, please report any 503 Errors to me via PM or on this thread. Oh, and the sender PHP goes through 29.1 KB less than it did before, not as amazing, but good stuff anyways.

This just sounds like a bunch of gobbledygook to everyone out there, but this means the following:

- possibly less 503 outbreaks
- possibly less lag/freezes, caused by the 503 outbreaks
(the chat only updates when the response code is 200 (OK!), the response code for 503 Service Unavailable is 503, and so the chat does nothing and simply freezes up)
- faster response times, by a lot.

So everyone, hopefully this is one good contribution to fixing these common 503 outbreaks.

(Some of you saw my messages about 'Chats going down for optimization'

Whenever I can't see my message at a chat (Besides refreshing) I go out and I get a crappy 503 error. I'm like: WHAT?! So thanks for the update
SomeLuigi (2012-07-21 23:35:16)
