I personally love all the smash games for different reasons and none are specifically better than the others.

Smash 64 - Huge hitstun meaning massive combos + simple gameplay lets everyone get in on the action.

Melee - Extremely fast, well balanced characters, and an insane amount of tech makes this game a match made in heaven for competitive player, Watching pros play this game is like watching an episode of Dragon Ball. This game has plenty of tech to separate the pros from the casuals (Wavedashing, teching, Directional Influence, L-Canceling, ETC) the list goes on.

Video Explaining Melee Speed

Brawl - More items, gamemodes, and characters make this a really fun party game and really levels the playing field with its slower pace letting everyone get into the fight. I love playing this with friends and have even gotten a small group together were we will play this (Plus some Melee) every other weekend.

Smash 4 - A great mix of everything, tons of gamemodes and characters, fast paced, a lot more hitstun (But less then 64) and a few techs to keep things interesting. Plus online mode to let you always have a breathing opponent to play against

Melee's graphics is . Even 64 is better than that crap, and 64 was the first one.

Melee's graphics are really good, especially for the time they were made. Melee's graphics are exponentially better than 64's. Make sure you are playing games like Melee on a CRTV (The old box tv's) and not a flatscreen or it will appear stretched out and you will have frame lag. I imagine you are using the Wii to play Smash 64 which upscale the resolution.
